Fin whale washed up on Trá Bhuí (Trawee)

Last Saturday morning on the 11th of November 2017 a large male Fin whale was discovered washed up on Trá Bhuí Beach. Although it was a somewhat poignant scene it allowed locals and visitors alike a wonderful opportunity to study these magnificent creatures up close.

The Fin Whale is second only to the Blue Whale in size.

Currently Sligo County Council are engaged in the difficult task of disposing of the carcass.

Throughout the weekend and into this week large numbers of visitors continue to take the opportunity to study the Fin whale.
